Roles and Responsibilities

Evaluate, hire and manage internal and external resources, including freelance group of writers, editorial and other editorial resources for both print and digital learning products.

Assist in detailed evaluation of new projects, preparation of budgets, proposals and presentations.

Manage and maintain relationships with client base and interface with clients on individual projects.

Review and suggest improvement to editorial procedures.

Submit weekly status reports to supervisor.

Travel as necessary for client visits and conferences.
Major Duties
-
Develop and maintain a stable base of freelance writers, editors, and other resources for both print and digital products.

Participate in launch meetings for new projects.

Ensure that schedule and budgets are maintained and adhered to.

Create writing guidelines for projects and communicate them to outside freelancers.

Review, edit, and rewrite work as necessary to ensure that it meets client’s guidelines and adheres to high quality standards.

Work with writers to address and resolve problems in submitted manuscript.

Write substantive copy.

Review page proofs and ensure that all needed corrections are made as necessary.

Verify factual accuracy of material submitted as necessary.

Update files and maintain archived files as required.

Maintain confidentiality of company and client records and materials.

Report project status to stakeholders and supervisors on a regular basis.

Maintain awareness of standards and trends in educational publishing.
Content Editing Skills
-
Comprehensive Understanding of literacy curriculum, pedagogy and instructional models.

Understanding of grade level requirements based on ELA standards/frameworks and research.
-
Minimum 7 years of experience in literacy curriculum development and educational publishing.
-
In-depth understanding of print and digital production processes and workflows.
